GHOSTS Anthology Submission Guidelines

Ghoststest *There is more to the cover. Had to crop to because of limitationsGhosts

Who we are:

We are a upstart anthology press looking to publish stories by established and new authors via ebook. Our focus is on newer authors. We plan to have a yearly or bi-yearly anthology published with a certain theme

What we are looking for:

We are looking for stories that have a ghost or multiple ghosts in it. The stories also must have an element of horror to it as this is an anthology of horror. However, the setting can be anything you want and genre (fantasy, sci-fi, romance, true story, urban legend etc) as long as it has a ghost and there is horror or something dark. We want something unique that send shivers down someone’s spine. Adult themes and gore are accepted but please refrain from graphic sex.

The word count should be between 2000-5000 words, however if the story is really good we are pretty flexible.

We are looking for original stories and will not accept reprints of stories that you have previously had published. The Anthology as a whole may be licensed by the Anthologist to other publishers for foreign language. This permission constitutes first World-English rights, first World Electronic Rights, as well as non-exclusive world anthology rights to the story. We ask that the story not be published anywhere else until three months after the anthology has been published.

Simultaneous submissions are fine but please let us know if the story was accepted somewhere else.

If accepted you will be paid $10 via paypal and you will receive a free copy of the book. We wish we could pay more but we are starting out and hopefully will pay more in the future. You will get a page in the book to talk about yourself and plug any work, website, social media, blogs and such you want. We want the people who read the book to know who you are and get your name out there in the world.

Also if accepted, every month on our blog will feature an interview of one of the authors from the book. This will also help get your name out there.

How to submit:

Please submit your stories to davidmichaeltyson@hotmail.com with a file of your preferred word processor (.doc, .docx, .rtf etc.) in standard manuscript format. An example of the format can be found here:  Standard Manuscript Format

In the subject of the email please put the word Submission, the title of your story and your name. In the body of the email please state your name, title of the story, your address and contact info. Also please let us know of any previous work published

The deadline for submission is September 28th, 2014.

What to expect:

We will respond in approximately 2-3 weeks. If you do not hear from us within 4 weeks feel free to query us.

Once we accept your work we will send out an agreement form detailing the rights and allowing us to publish your story.

We will ask for you to send a little author bio and any plugs you wish to have for your other work, blogs, social media etc. This will be put into the book.

You will receive a payment of $10 and a copy of the book once it has been published.

After published once a month we will spotlight one of the authors in the book with an interview of the author posted on the blog.

We look forward to reading your stories and getting them published. Good luck.

Stephen King Movie Review- Carrie (1976)

My wife and I watched all three Carrie movies I am going to review this past weekend. It was a lot to watch in one weekend and we got through it. This begins my first movie review of stories by Stephen King. As you know I am reviewing every Stephen King book as they were published and if there is a movie (and sequels or remakes) based on the book then I will review that also. The first movie up is Carrie (1976).

Like the book, basically the opening scene deals with a girl in high school named Carrie White played by Sissy Spacek in a shower and she gets her first period. There she goes berserk thinking she is dying while the other girls in the locker room make fun of her and throw tampons and pads at her. Leading the charge was Chris Hargensen (Nancy Allen) who is basically a bully. Another girl Sue Snell (Amy Irving) is also throwing tampons at Carrie. This gets the P.E. teacher involved Mrs. Collins (Betty Buckley) to break up to torment. This leads to the first sign of Carrie’s telekinetic powers as she breaks a light.

The movie continues with Carrie being sent home where we are introduced to the abusive and ultra religious mother Margaret White (Piper Laurie). She never told Carrie about what a period was and called it a sin.

Like the book, Sue feels sorry for what she did to Carrie and has her boyfriend Tommy Ross (William Katt) ask Carrie to the prom. Chris wants to get revenge against Carrie and with her boyfriend Billy Nolan played by none other than a very young John Travolta. This entails of getting pig’s blood and dumping it on Carrie. This leads to Carrie’s rampage which you will have to see.

Sissy Spacek plays Carrie very well. She portrays a girl who has been bullied, ignored and abused her whole life. Her mannerisms speak loud volumes. She makes you think she is really dying when she gets her first period and when she finally snaps at the prom, she portrays that magnificently. Even though Sissy Spacek played her well I didn’t think she had the look of Carrie from the book but that is just a minor complaint.

The rest of the cast played their parts well. There was some minor changes from the book like the teacher had a different name and some minor details but they did a good job. However, I think who played Carrie’s mom did a wonderful job. She captured the character of Margaret White and really made you feel for Carrie.

Overall this was a pretty close adaptation of Stephen King’s book. Some scenes were left out like an incident that Carrie had as a young girl demonstrating her powers and also a scene with Chris’ lawyer father. The major change was the ending which was different than the book. However it produced the same emotional response one would get from the book. The movie also throws some small twists like who was really laughing at Carrie in the prom scene. They try to make it ambiguous about Sue’s role in the film about the plot against Carrie.

I liked this movie. It had great acting, some freaky scenes, pretty good cinematography, and produces an emotional response. There is also a lot of people being slapped in this movie also. See it and you will know what I mean. Even though it is billed as a horror movie and one would think about blood and guts from a psycho. The real horror I see is how society and the mother treated Carrie. Again as I said in my book review the abuse by the mother is horrific. Carrie being bullied was just as horrific. Being bullied is mainstream news today and this movie should be an example of when you take bulling someone too far could end up. Well maybe someone won’t go all telekinetic on you but it could have serious consequences.

That was my first movie review of the Stephen King universe. Tell me what you thought about it and leave a comment. Have you seen the movie Carrie? What are your thoughts on it and what reactions you had? If you haven’t seen the movie then I do recommend it. Here is a trailer for the movie to maybe spark your interest:

Like I said in my book review I will have a tracker of the final ratings of each book or movie I reviewed to show what I liked or didn’t like. It is a rating based out of five stars. For previous reviews if you missed it you can click on the title and it will link to that review for you to read. The next review will be The Rage: Carrie 2.

Long week but will write a bit next week

Sorry everyone I know I said I was back but sometimes in my job I have to travel accross the country and work some long hours on a project. This week was the case so that I why I didn’t get to write as much as I wanted to. I will get going again next week as I will be in Nevada working regular hours. Probably get a personal blog up and maybe reviews of the three Carrie movies I have coming. Until then enjoy the Memorial Day weekend and always remember what the day stands for and not just as a long weekend to have out of work.

I have been gone and I hope I am back

I have not written in this in awhile. I have been so busy adjusting to my new life and finding out how to go about everything. Believe me I wanted to come back and write a lot in this but things have been so busy and some personal things have been happening. Now I feel I can return to my writing. Not only just writing in this blog but writing my books and other items. I feel now is the time to get going and really push for my dreams. I mean I will be 30 in December. It is time to make my millions I wanted and live out my dreams and I will do it. I have it in me just like any person and if I try and work very hard on going for my dream it will come true. Come and join me in this blog as I journey towards completing my dream. It will be a fun ride.

I should have my first Stephen King review up either tonight or this weekend so check back on that. I also have some other porjects going so stay tuned. Yes this is short but wanted to let everyone know I am back.

An Upsetting Day

An upsetting day today but it is for the best. As some of you know we had issues getting our home loan approved due to the fact that I worked in Las Vegas and they didn’t want to approve a loan because they did not believe I would actually live there and they never heard someone living in Goldfield and working in Las Vegas.

We decided to go ahead and rent the house to have proof I am living in the house and also working in Las Vegas. So that is going great and we love the house. So why do you ask it is an upsetting day but it will be for the best?  We discovered a great loan program with Nevada State Bank for the house that has a very low interest rate, low payments and will able to pay off the house in ten years instead of the usual twenty or thirty. Now that is something great and would love to do. However, this deal requires a large down payment. This is the part that is upsetting not because I have to save some money for the next few months but because I will have to delay my current projects I have for Goldfield and the projects my wife and I have. It will probably be delayed a year. The reason a lot of these will be delayed is because I would be investing my own money to see the good things to the community would happen and the projects my wife and I had.

It is for the best though in the long run because once I save enough money I will be able to have that permanent feeling of living in Goldfield. I apologize about this as I was very excited for the near future. However, have no fear I will still be working on the projects in the background but just can’t implement them yet. I will of course continue to write in this blog and also of course pursue my goal of writing my books and stories and getting an agent. I will also still support Goldfield in any way I can at this time.

Even though it is upsetting it is for the best and everything will come together. It will give me more time to plan the surprises and great things I have planned for Goldfield and Tonopah area. I apologize about this small bump but as people have bumps in their lives they have bumps in their plans.

What the Future Holds

It has been over a week since I started writing in this blog again. I have noticed a few readers coming to the blog and I hope people enjoy it. I know this blog seems disjointed but as the title says it covers everything political, social and things in everyday life from my mind. There will be a lot of cool things coming so don’t you worry.

As I mentioned I have a few projects on the works. You always know about my book projects which are still in the process. Don’t worry my Fifth Age fans there will be more books and I will finish the series. In fact I am in talks with agents to see if I can go that route. Please check the news section of my book website by clicking here. There you can see information on my book and future books.

I am also writing a bunch of short stories with the setting of all over Nevada (especially Goldfield). These short stories are horror stories that integrate things in my life, urban legends and other things you see every day. They can be disturbing and others can be satirical as a dark comedy. There is also a lot of twist endings. They are pretty exciting and I might share a couple on this blog.  I also have a surprise about these stories that I will reveal in the future when the time is right.

I have not forgotten about Goldfield. Like I alluded to earlier in my blog I am planning on some major changes in the town. It will help everyone in town, produce growth and jobs and back to the glory days. It will be glorious and fun at the same time. I hope to get the community to also get involved.  My wife and I have a project we will be starting soon and it will be great. I can’t give the details about it just yet because it will have a great unveiling and something the world can see and participate. We are very excited about it. Stay tuned for that.

As a follow up to the Resort Fee posting I have found a link that lists the hotels with Resort Fees and how much they are. It is very interesting if you are going to stay at a hotel in Las Vegas to know that on top of paying for the room for your stay you will be charged the extra fees at checkout no matter what. Check out the website by clicking here.

I started working out hard again to get back into shape like I used to be. It has been a hard week getting back into the flow of things but I have stuck with it and I am already feeling much better. I will update you periodically on this blog on my progress. I will also show you what I have been doing to get back into shape.

Well that is a little idea of the future. I know it is a little vague but that is half the fun which is the anticipation. This will be an interesting year and hope everyone is ready for it. That is if the world doesn’t end in December but that is another story for a different time. Be prepared for some exciting stuff both locally and across the world as this year will be very exciting. Stay tuned…

I will start writing in this again

Yes I have been on here since October. Things have been time consuming  and a lot of changes have been happening in my life. I plan to start writing regularly as I have planned when I started this. I will at least write two or three times a week maybe more. It should be interesting. I will be starting again next week. So please come back Monday for an interesting write up that I am sure you will enjoy and register as a user if you haven’t already.
